Give some money to this school, will you?

I know, I know, none of us has much to spare right now. And I’m under no illusions that Bill Gates reads my blog.

But if you’re looking for a chance to make a difference in the lives of children–look no further.

Positive Tomorrows is a nonprofit school for homeless and at-risk children in Oklahoma City, and it needs your support. Check out the website, read the story of this amazing school, and try not to cry. (Not easy.) Click Donate. (Much easier.)

In the spirit of full disclosure, I serve on the Board of Directors for the school, but if you think they’re paying me to post this, you clearly have no idea how badly the economy has affected nonprofits!

Why are you still here? Go, read, give them some money!

Lara,
I work at a title I school in west Texas where the large majority of our population falls into the economically disadvantaged target group. We NEED a facility like this that is sustainable and equitable for these students. As it is now, we have programs (plural being the operative) in place that are disjointed and not sustainable over time, and are certainly not geared for the "special" needs of these children. More often than not they fall between the cracks because the are "off the grid."

Kudos to Oklahoma City for understanding that educating the whole student means facing the harsh reality of life just as much, if not more than, academics.

Thanks for your comment. As far as I know, Positive Tomorrows is one of only a handful of schools like it in the country. And the thing is, it's a lean organization that does so much with a pretty meager budget--I don't know why there aren't more schools like it! It doesn't take millions to change a life.
